Our Projects

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) represent key elements for economic and social development in Sub-Sahara Africa in sectors such as education, administration and business development. However, the region lacks sustainable local ICT service providers , ICT-driven businesses, IT-experts, and innovation managers, particularly in the promising field of Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS). Therefore, Cyel is working closely with various partners namely GKPS, Fossfa, InWent in a project dubbed "ict@innovation" whose main aim is fostering Small and Micromedia Enterprises (SMEs), in the field of Free/ Libre Open Source Software (F/LOSS)

The focus is on Free/Libre Open Source Software (F/LOSS) as a key technology to drive innovation, add local value and foster development-oriented and affordable ICT applications. The improvement of regional networking and strengthening of consulting capacities of ICT associations and training institutions as well as of other relevant change agents is a key vehicle of the programme.

The Ict@innovation programme's goal under the umbrella (ICT4MDG-ICT for Millennium Development Goals/Kenya's Vision 2030) is to help communities and SMEs in Creating Business and Learning Opportunities with Free and Open Source Software. This will help to Free their IT-Businesses from vendor lock-in software thus creating development impact through knowledge and ICT-related initiatives.
